Energy infrastructure targeted in the region
Ukraine's energy systems have faced escalating strikes in the past few days

Throughout the evening, Russian missile and drone strikes have resulted in power cuts in large parts of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv.

A number of civilians were hurt while residents in eastern districts were left without electricity and encountered interruptions to drinking water, as stated by local authorities.

Meanwhile, a minor was killed in a separate assault in the southeastern region in the southern area, according to regional authorities.

Russian forces has increased strikes on energy facilities over recent weeks, while the country's government has requested "concrete actions" from allies to increase pressure on Moscow.

Authorities reported that 450 drones and more than 30 rockets targeted Ukraine's energy infrastructure, describing such strikes as "cynical and calculated" and against "essential services" as winter approaches.

The energy minister said Russia was "launching a major assault" and repair crews were striving to fix the damage.

A wave of strikes damaged energy infrastructure and residential structures in Kyiv.

Several of the people injured in the attacks on the city have been taken to hospital, per statements from municipal representatives.

The strikes come after periods of aerial attacks in the region, parts of which are currently controlled by Russian forces.

Authorities told journalists that Russia was purposely seeking to demolish the country's energy grid, with attacks already impacting gas facilities.
